I tried the demo of Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders. In this sequel of Lonely Mountains: Downhill, we trade our bike for skis and the studio didn’t fail to deliver another fun and atmospheric game.

Release Date: 2024
Genre: Sports
Developer: Megagon Industries
Publisher: Megagon Industries
Platforms: Steam (reviewed), Xbox, Playstation, Switch

Gameplay

The controls feel good, especially at high speed. Coupled with the sound of your skis carving in the snow, the game is immersive. Until you crash… and you will crash a lot. Like its prequel, the game can be hard at times, but the fun lies in that. Trying to perfect a run down the mountain is fun, and there will also be a zen mode in the full release.

One major plus for this sequel is the multiplayer modes (up to 8 players). You can take shortcuts and do tricks while jumping over your friends. I’m sure a lot of people are going to enjoy racing against their friends going down the snowy peaks.

Art

The art style is low-poly minimalist. The landscapes and characters do not have a lot of details, and it gives them a modern and clean look, especially when combined with the vibrant colors.

The game does not feature music while you play, but it’s full of environmental sounds. This creates the feeling of being alone in the nature of the mountain and is overall a really pleasing atmosphere.

Final Thoughts

Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders is an exhilarating game that will invite you to navigate difficult trails. The game is good for try-hards and casuals alike.
I recommend it, especially with friends.
